We are seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join the exciting development of next-generation Computing Products in Cedar Rapids, IA. We are focused on applying this solution across a wide variety of Avionics products in safety-critical commercial and military applications.
We are looking for a strong leader with an action-oriented mindset who can evaluate individual and project performance while anticipating changes. This role will involve a high level of collaboration to build and enhance development teams while operating with integrity. The ability to assemble a high-fidelity bid is also critical to this role, with the established skill/discipline of capturing high-quality scope & ROADS in written form.
What YOU will do:

• Serve as the engineering project leader for programs developing Avionics products, including coordinating hardware, software, and firmware scope to meet program commitments.
• Serve as engineering project leader, supplying project management and technical direction during all program phases, including pursuit, bidding, planning, execution, and sustainment.
• Ensure consistency with Collins Aerospace technical consistent engineering processes.
• Ensure compliance with program and product requirements as reflected in design plans.
• Lead and mentor a wide range of entry-level to highly experienced engineers.
• Demonstrate technical ability to process platforms and the associated technologies.
• Maintain awareness of key technologies and the company's competitive position
• Team up with a high-performance software team, collaborating with fellow Software Engineers, Team Leads, Project Engineer, Software Architects and other teams.
• Opportunity to serve as a Subject Matter Expert within the Software discipline and team.
• Responsible for providing direct support to stakeholders to answer questions and solve technical issues.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
• Demonstrated systems and/or software engineering experience on complex avionics programs.
  

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Familiar with standard systems and software development practices (V Model).
• Experience with military and commercial systems/software certification (e.g. DO-178, DO-297, etc.).
• 5 years of leading engineering teams, preferably small engineering teams (5-10 engineers), and experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM)
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
