Location: Pacific Northwest (Position can be located in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho)

Target Salary: $95,000 - $180,000 (Pay will be determined on geographic location and relevant experience).

Overview:

We are seeking a Fish Passage Engineer to join our team supporting dam and hydropower infrastructure projects across the Pacific Northwest. This role will focus on the planning, design, and technical execution of fish passage systems at dams, spillways, and hydropower facilities for local, regional, and national clients. Projects may include both new facility development and the improvement of existing infrastructure to enhance efficiency, safety, and ecological performance.

Responsibilities:

• Support the design, analysis, and construction of fish passage, transport, collection, and screening facilities.
• Perform hydraulic and hydrologic modeling using tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Flow3D, and ArcGIS.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and project stakeholders to develop innovative and effective fish passage solutions.
• Conduct technical evaluations of existing dam and hydropower infrastructure to identify opportunities for ecological and operational improvements.
• Prepare technical reports, design drawings, and specifications to support permitting, design, and construction efforts.
• Provide field support during site assessments, inspections, and construction oversight.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Hydraulic, or Water Resources Engineering (or related field).
• Strong technical knowledge of fish passage and aquatic habitat considerations, particularly in transport, collection, and screening systems.
• Experience with hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Flow3D) and GIS tools (ArcGIS).
• Familiarity with dam safety, hydropower operations, and water resources infrastructure preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
