Position Overview:
This position requires specialization in flavor development and creation with knowledge of dairy, plant-based, or protein flavors preferred. The candidate is expected to demonstrate leadership in developing differentiated and superior flavor systems for the company's global beverage brands; commercializing new flavors and technologies; improving existing products and technologies; using project management skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, delivering projects on time and within budget; influencing strategy development; communicating project updates to leadership; and conducting training to build flavor knowledge within the organization.
Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with R&D to create flavor systems using scientific applications and creative thinking.
Manage multiple projects, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within guidelines.
Work cross-functionally within the organization to achieve critical business initiatives.
Provide project updates to leadership and key stakeholders.
Develop flavor capabilities for oneself and others in the organization.
Exemplify the company's growth and leadership behaviors: inclusive, iterative, curious, and empowered.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition, or related science field (required).
Certification from the Society of Flavorists (preferred).
Related Work Experience:
Experience with flavor houses (preferred).
12-15 years of experience in flavor development, creation, or analysis.
Functional Skills:
Creativity and high sensory acuity (taste and smell).
Knowledge of essential oils, flavoring chemicals, solvent systems, flavor delivery methods, and other flavor creation components.
Basic knowledge of instrumentation (e.g., GC/MS, GC/O).
Understanding of chemistry, chemical reactions, and their application in flavor development.
Knowledge of flavor labeling regulations (FDA, USDA, TTB) and regulatory organizations.
Ability to design, conduct, and review flavor creation experiments.
Capability to develop and evaluate flavor prototypes against technical and performance specifications.
Evaluate ingredients and new flavor materials for optimization.
Apply flavor creations in beverage bases and assist product development and quality assurance teams.
Lead and participate in team projects, committees, and initiatives related to flavor development.
