About the Team:
The Tooling and Factory Automation team operates at the intersection of design, manufacturing, and automation, creating everything from large structural fixtures to small tools that enable Terran R's production. As a design group embedded within manufacturing, we focus on understanding the needs of our internal partners, proposing solutions, and delivering hardware to improve speed, scalability, and efficiency. We are also leading Relativity's factory automation efforts, critical to scaling production at current and future facilities. You will have the autonomy to make decisions, implement solutions, and see them in action on the factory floor. Ultimately, your work will define how rockets and factories are built.
About the Role:
As a Staff Automation Control Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and grow a team dedicated to expanding factory automation within manufacturing. Your responsibilities include architecting automation solutions for various manufacturing needs, from quick interim setups to large permanent infrastructure. You will collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and design engineers to develop tailored solutions for diverse applications. You will also own the implementation of hardware, working closely with technicians, operators, and end users, including writing and debugging control software.
Your projects will vary in size and complexity, including:
Driving the technical direction of factory automation
Designing solutions to improve speed, quality, reliability, and efficiency
Developing large-scale multi-axis CNC systems
Creating robotic assembly and inspection equipment
About You:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or related field
12+ years of experience with CNC (Fanuc, Siemens), robotic (Fanuc, Kuka, ABB), or automated systems (Beckhoff, etc.)
Experience managing robotic and automation projects in a production or factory setting
Proficiency in control system software (CNC, PLCs, motor drives)
Experience designing industrial safety systems and conducting risk assessments
Ability to identify and mitigate technical risks in complex systems
Nice to Have:
Experience producing electrical and pneumatic documentation
Experience programming Siemens CNCs/PLCs
Experience with Kuka, Fanuc, ABB robotics control systems
Knowledge of communication protocols like Profinet, Ethernet, EtherCAT, CANbus

Hiring Range: $161,000—$206,800 USD
