Description
Join Pipeworks Studios as a Level Designer I and help build the first playable foundations of a multiplayer extraction shooter. You’ll collaborate closely with your Level Design Lead and systems, AI, art, and narrative partners to create gameplay-rich POIs and map sections that emphasize risk/reward exploration, readable combat spaces, and dynamic PvEvP encounters.
Our studio is based in Eugene, OR and this role is available for fully remote, hybrid, or fully in-office work.
Key Responsibilities
Day to Day
Support the Lead Level Designer in designing, prototyping, and iterating on POIs and map sections from greybox to first playable. Build clean layouts, sightlines, cover, lanes, and traversal with a focus on player options and encounter flow. Implement basic Blueprint logic (spawns, objectives, triggers, extraction points) and integrate AI/navmesh and loot/objective hooks. Collaborate with systems, AI, and art/worldbuilding to maintain readability, pacing, and environmental storytelling. Participate in playtests, capture feedback, triage bugs in Jira, and iterate quickly to improve feel and clarity. Maintain clear documentation (callouts, flows, encounter notes) and good map hygiene (naming/layers/world partition practices).
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Must Haves
Practical experience with UE5 level tools and Blueprint fundamentals; able to implement simple encounter scripting. Understanding of extraction shooter loops (risk vs. reward, pathing, third-party pressure, extraction timing) and competitive FPS readability. Strong communication, collaboration, and iteration mindset. Comfort working across global time zones. Familiarity with basic AI placement, nav, and spawn/encounter setup. Nice to haves
Experience building POI-driven maps or PvEvP spaces. Knowledge of callout conventions and map readability. Exposure to Perforce, Jira/Confluence, profiling basics, and optimization friendly practices. Playtest facilitation or user research collaboration experience. Education & Experience
3+ years of professional level design experience Contributions to at least one shipped title
