About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Data Engineer to join a leading client’s enterprise data engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data platforms, pipelines, and analytics systems that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
This is a multi-year consulting engagement focused on modernizing enterprise data infrastructure by leveraging advanced Azure cloud services, data warehouse solutions, and DevOps practices. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to design and implement scalable data solutions that support analytics, reporting, and cloud transformation initiatives.
This position is ideal for a senior-level engineer who thrives in hands-on cloud engineering, enjoys solving complex data challenges, and has a proven track record with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and enterprise-scale cloud data ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Development: Design and build scalable, high-performing data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Azure Data Lake, supporting both batch and streaming data ingestion.
Cloud Platform Engineering: Develop and maintain enterprise-scale data platforms leveraging Azure IaaS/PaaS services, ensuring performance, scalability, and security.
Data Warehousing Solutions: Architect and optimize SQL Server-based and cloud-based data warehouses, implementing best practices in data modeling and integration.
DevOps & Automation: Implement CI/CD processes, infrastructure as code, and automation for seamless deployments and environment management.
Cross-Platform Expertise: Integrate solutions across Azure, AWS, and hybrid environments, providing architectural input for data movement and transformation strategies.
Advanced Analytics Enablement: Support downstream analytics platforms (Power BI, Azure Databricks, Spark, HDInsight) by designing efficient data structures.
Security & Compliance: Develop robust data security models and enforce governance across data pipelines and storage systems.
System Troubleshooting: Monitor and optimize pipelines, resolve performance bottlenecks, and troubleshoot complex data engineering issues.
Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with stakeholders, guide junior engineers, and provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
Documentation & Training: Maintain comprehensive system documentation and deliver training for engineering teams and business users.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
12+ years of experience in designing and developing enterprise-scale data warehouses and analytics systems in both cloud and on-premises environments.
Proven expertise in Azure cloud data services: Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Pipelines, and related IaaS/PaaS offerings.
Strong background in data modeling (Kimball and Inmon), ETL/ELT development, and pipeline orchestration.
Experience developing NoSQL solutions with Azure Cosmos DB and integrating with streaming data sources.
Familiarity with AWS cloud services and hybrid infrastructure is a plus.
Technical Competencies:
Proficiency in SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS), T-SQL development, and query optimization.
Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
Knowledge of Azure Databricks, Spark, IoT, and HDInsight is highly desirable.
Hands-on experience with C#, PowerShell scripting, and Python.
Strong understanding of data security models and compliance standards.
