The primary purpose of the Systems Specialist is to develop and support information technology systems that support the business, research, and instructional functions of the College community. This role involves managing complex systems with high standards for information security and uptime. Responsibilities include providing direct user support, maintaining documentation, researching hardware and software for research and instructional use, and managing installation of operating systems and software on hardware and virtual machines. The work requires advanced use of software and hardware tools to maintain and provision services critical to the College. The role demands expertise in core infrastructure elements and their interrelationships to ensure a stable computing environment. Technologies supported include Proxmox Virtualization Environment, configuration management tools like Ansible or Cfengine, monitoring applications such as Zabbix, HPC cluster management tools like Warewulf, networking technologies including containers, Slurm, Infiniband, and more. The position involves working independently within a collaborative team, resolving issues under pressure, and understanding system configurations to assess impacts of changes. Additional duties include optimizing system performance, troubleshooting, analyzing system load issues, and interacting with clients and technical staff. Tasks involve software and hardware creation, installation, modification, testing, and documentation across various platforms. The role may include final technical decision-making and occasional work during nights and weekends, along with on-call duties as directed by management. About the company
