Title: Associate Director of Development for Individual Giving

Status: Non-exempt, Full Time Employee (40 hours a week), hybrid

Reports To: Director of Development and Communications

Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 annually

Trinity Boston Connects (TBC), a respected social justice nonprofit, is seeking an Associate Director of Individual Giving to join this dynamic community change organization. The mission of Trinity Boston Connects is to heal the traumatic impact of systemic racism on youth of color in Boston and create a more equitable city in which they can thrive. We are looking for an individual who believes passionately in this mission and understands the necessity to address systemic racism from multiple angles, both personally and professionally.

The Moment

In January 2021, the Board of Directors approved a comprehensive strategic multi-year plan to achieve deeper and broader impact in the community through clearer focus and increased integration of our offerings. Over the next year, TBC will complete the implementation of this strategy with the aim of better, more holistic support for the youth and organizations that we serve. TBC has most recently focused primarily on increasing event-based fundraising and institutional giving. Now, under its new strategic plan, TBC seeks to embark on a new major/planned gifts program while at the same time maintaining momentum in the broader base of the giving pyramid. The Associate Director will be key to this new focus.

The Position

Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Associate Director for Individual Giving is tasked with expanding the major, annual, and planned giving efforts of Trinity Boston Connects with a focus on individual giving. The Associate Director will expand, nurture, and grow a diversified individual donor portfolio, including major gifts and individual sponsorships of TBC events and fundraisers. With an individual giving program goal of approximately $1 million a year toward the organization’s $3 million annual budget, the candidate will create and execute strategies to identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective individual donors and event sponsors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Enhance overall individual giving strategy.
  2. Build and implement effective individual fundraising strategies to engage, renew and acquire individual funders at all levels through customized engagement and strategic relationship building.
  3. Propose, plan, and execute effective fundraising strategies for the annual giving and the major gifts programs to develop a well-balanced, sustainable donor portfolio.
  4. Refresh stewardship and solicitation approaches to support donor retention.
  5. In close cooperation with the Director of Development and the Finance team, build out planned giving and endowment giving strategies for TBC and lead the implementation of these strategies.
  6. Actively embrace TBC’s mission and work closely with program leadership to articulate its value to a diverse community in an authentic and meaningful way in donor proposals, news stories, and donor conversations.
  7. Help develop inclusive, equitable, anti-racist individual giving fundraising practices that can serve as a model for other nonprofit organizations.
  8. Work collaboratively with, and within, a diverse, high-performing development team.
  9. Collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Development and Communications Director, and Board of Directors to increase individual donors and prospects capable of giving $25,000 or more.
  10. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a personal portfolio of major donor prospects.
  11. Establish and maintain major donor pipeline reporting and forecasting mechanisms in Raiser’s Edge for the TBC leadership and Board of Directors that facilitates effective and efficient moves management process.
  12. Expand a mission- and value-driven strategy for peer-to-peer prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship that utilizes board members and thought leaders across Boston.
  13. Create and implement timely, concise, and effective donor impact statements for stewardship purposes.
  14. Maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  1. 4-6+ years of individual donor and major gifts fundraising experience.
  2. Professional experience and demonstrated success in managing individual giving programs and fundraising campaigns.
  3. Demonstrated success in soliciting individual gifts at all levels, including six-figure gifts.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to social justice with the ability to talk about systemic racism and oppression especially within the context of TBC’s mission.
  5. Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent years of relevant experience, master’s degree a plus.
  6. Demonstrated effectiveness in utilizing a donor system, Raiser’s Edge a plus.
  7. Highly organized with strong project management and meeting facilitation skills.
  8. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  9. Strong research and analytical skills.
  10. Ability to develop strong relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  11. Familiarity with the Boston philanthropic community a plus.
  12. Ability to maintain composure under pressure and prioritize among competing needs.
  13. Knowledge of social emotional learning skills and community practices of racial equity, restorative justice, and trauma-informed care a plus.
  14. Knowledge of youth development and leadership, clinical care, and organizational change programming a plus.
  15. Self-directed, professional, resourceful style; ability to work independently and as a collaborator, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects.

Technological Qualifications

  1. Experience and proficiency with Raiser’s Edge or willingness to learn.
  2. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams).
  3. Proficiency in program management tools such as Monday.com would be ideal.
  4. Proficiency in working across social media platforms (especially Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn) a plus.
