Highway Transportation Engineer
VHB's Wethersfield, CT office is seeking a strong Civil Highway Engineer who is passionate about working on innovative transportation design engineering projects. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and growing team, and to tackle many of CT's municipal and state roadway, streetscape, bike facilities, and safety projects. Experience working with state and local agencies is highly desired. There is an option for someone to work from another VHB office to support CT projects, if meeting all qualifications. VHB is seeking an individual to work within a team of highly motivated engineers to produce fully coordinated plans, specifications, and deliverables. This may include: Conceptual and final design of roadway, highway, and multi-modal engineering solutions for a variety of transportation-related projects including development of geometric horizontal and vertical layout, grading and drainage design, and utilities layout Preparation and review of roadway design criteria, calculations, drawings, estimates, and specifications Development of 3D modeling for conceptual roadway alignments Temporary traffic control development Typical section development and pavement design Preparation of right-of-way and easement plans Coordination with design team, clients, subconsultants, and stakeholders Construction support services (review of submittals and RFIs) Skills and attributes: Knowledge of the policies, procedures and design standards of local and state agencies (CTDOT) Working knowledge of programs such as Civil3D, Open Roads, and Hydro CAD is a plus Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines Team oriented and motivated to lead/mentor junior staff Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented Qualifications: 5-8 years of civil transportation design engineering experience required Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation required Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required, Master's degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience) PE license required We are VHB!
