Principal Systems Engineer
to join their team in
Rockville, MD . This is a
direct hire
position offering a competitive salary and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge phased array and user terminal (UT) technologies. About the Role: As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will lead the system design and integration of next- satellite user terminals, including Ku- and Ka-band phased array antennas. You will drive hardware/software architecture decisions, system requirements, and end-to-end performance validation in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. This role involves direct engagement with both internal stakeholders and external customers. Key Responsibilities: Define system architecture and detailed requirements for satellite user terminals (UTs), including RF subsystems and phased array components
Lead design trade studies for Ku/Ka-band phased array chipsets and antenna architectures
Develop and implement fast, cost-effective calibration techniques for phased arrays
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate top-level requirements into subsystem and component-level specifications
Perform performance simulations and technical analyses to support design decisions
Create and manage test plans, validation procedures, and system documentation
Engage with customers to align systems hardware/software architecture with product needs
Guide engineering teams to ensure timely and technically sound product delivery
Support in-field testing and validation of UT systems
Travel up to 20% based on project phases
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
7+ years of experience in hardware/software product development with at least 5 years in a systems or architecture-focused role
Strong background in RF systems, digital communications, and communications theory
Proven experience with phased array antenna design and Ku/Ka-band systems
Proficiency with system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
Working knowledge of C/C++ and network protocols (TCP/IP)
Experience with formal requirement management tools (Jama, Jira, DOORS, etc.)
Qualifications: Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Familiarity with satellite communications and over-the-air field trial testing
Experience in debugging and integrating complex systems from RF front-end to baseband
Knowledge of phased array calibration and production techniques
