Summary: At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products. This team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products, creating see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. The role involves designing architecture and display sub-systems for wearable devices, developing and implementing test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support transparent display systems. We're seeking an experienced Engineer focused on Optical Engineering to join our Reality Labs team, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of these systems. As a key member of our team, you'll explore innovative architectures and design spaces for wearable systems, develop and analyze system components, and drive detailed system-level analysis. In this role, you will be part of a team where you will consistently switch between high-level thinking and meticulous attention to detail to mature our architectures and designs. Required Skills: Display Systems Optical Engineer Responsibilities: Explore architectures and design spaces for optical systems through design and prototyping using novel and conventional techniques and components

Develop and analyze system and subsystem components that are specified to meet the needs of advanced AR products

Perform detailed system level analysis (i.e. optical modeling, tolerancing, and estimating size, weight, power to predict system performance etc.)

Contribute to the process of design releases, prototyping and creation of related documentation

Collaborate with internal teams for adoption of mature technologies

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree in the field of Optics, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or a similar field, and/or equivalent work experience

2+ years of experience in applied research and/or product development

2+ years of experience with optical systems or similar

Experience maturing optical systems from proof-of-concept to early low volume prototype or production

Experience in scripting and/or system optimization and analysis tools

Knowledge of optical design, modeling methods, and tools for imaging and illumination systems as well as tolerance analysis

Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional environment

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Develop new concepts and technologies for Wearable Glasses Display and sensor systems

Cross-functional engagement with internal and external partners to develop concepts and prototypes into realizable product hardware designs

Define sub-system requirements with the product team, then deliver AR/VR hardware, software, and calibration that meets specifications. This may include: hardware (optics, electronics, mechanics, silicon, sensor, data-communication), software (computer vision algorithms, calibration, modeling, analysis), and performance analysis

Drive optical system requirements definitions. Flow down optical system requirements to sub-system and component level. Resolve requirements discrepancies at different levels

Drive design verification, testing, and troubleshooting process to correlate with optical modeling and metrology, and between sub-system performance and system performance

Support TPMs in evaluation, validation, and delivery to specs by metrology, user studies, safety studies, FMEA analysis, environmental analysis, and dogfooding

PhD degree or equivalent experience in the field of Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a similar field

Working knowledge of human visual systems and ophthalmic optics, and familiarity with ophthalmic lens standards

5+ years of experience in applied research and/or product development of optics or photonic systems

5+ years of experience with optical systems requiring any combination of the following: imaging, illumination, physical optics, stray light analysis, radiometry, photometry

Knowledge of mass production of optical components and systems

Experience with full design chain: first order layout, design, material selection, opto-mechanical interaction, tolerancing, thermal control, supplier selection, supplier management, test and manufacturing evaluation
