Contract Attorneys – Justice of the Peace Courts The District Attorney’s Office is looking for attorneys to work on a contract basis handling dockets in the Harris County Justice of the Peace Courts. Contract attorneys may work between 20 and 40 hours per week at an hourly rate of $35.00 to $50.00 per hour, depending on experience. Mileage will be reimbursed and distance of commute will be considered, when possible, in making court assignments. Job Duties: Assigned to cover one or more of the Justice of the Peace Courts Handle arraignment, pretrial dockets and trial Prepare complaints, charging instruments, review and respond to emails from defendants and defense attorneys Other duties in the Justice of the Peace Courts as assigned by the Chief Prosecutor of the Justice of the Peace Court Section. Qualification and Experience: Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and Texas Bar certification. Must be a Texas licensed attorney. Must be able to work independently and ability to manage a demanding work load with sound problem-solving and decision-making skills. Hours: Monday through Friday, 20 to 40 hours weekly, typically between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
