Environmental Inspector II
Environmental Health Coordinator positions are responsible to develop, coordinate, and implement the City’s asbestos, lead and mold hazard policies, assessments and mitigation; enforce lead regulations; guide the City’s Lead Safety and Healthy Homes Program (LSHHP) and/or the Asbestos, Lead and Mold Program (ALMP) inspection staff; write management grants; administer abatement, laboratory and related contracts; support the ALMP and the LSHHP when necessary to accomplish program objectives; developand perform presentations and trainings on the hazards of asbestos, lead and mold; collaborate and coordinate asbestos, lead and mold hazard response efforts that ultimately will involve various City departments, facility managers, council offices, regulatory agencies, and the public; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
Environmental Health Coordinator employees may be required to work at heights up to 130 feet and in confined spaces.
Environmental Health Coordinator employees must pass an Asbestos and Lead Medical Examination prior to employment AND pass an annual medical examination in order to retain employment.

EDUCATION:Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester credits /180 quarter credits).
NOTE:
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis.One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.
EXPERIENCE: Three years of full-time professional-level experience in one or more of the following areas:
Lead hazard enforcement.
Lead or Healthy Home related grant writing and grant management.
Administering an asbestos and lead management program.
Conducting asbestos, lead and mold inspections and assess environmental hazards.
Designing asbestos, lead and mold abatement projects which include preparing reports, recommendations for mitigation measures, and developing specifications for abatement work.

A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Occupational
Safety/Environmental
Science, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry or a closely related field may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required experience. City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours.OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered. CERTIFICATION: A valid California Department of Public Health Lead Certified Inspector/Assessor Certificate is required within six months from the date of hire. LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver Licenseis required at the time of hire. HIGHLY DESIRABLE: Possession of a valid, current California Department of Public Health Lead Certified Inspector/Assessor and/or Project Monitor Certification.
