Location: [Facility Name - Not Provided] Trauma Level: Level III Designations: STEMI Receiving | Stroke Receiving Average Daily Volume: ~109 patients/day
? Unit Overview
Total Beds: 25 ED beds (2.5 Zones)
Additional Areas:
3 Triage Rooms
3 Trauma Bays
2 "safer" rooms for psych/seclusion
Hazmat shower and flood tent for mass casualty
Fast Track Area: 4-room space occasionally used as fast track
ED Holds: Throughout the ED, average hold time ~90 mins (up to 4-8 hours). May include peds and psych patients.
? Staffing & Support
Charge Nurse: 1 per shift (may take a patient load, especially nights)
Zones: Each zone (8 rooms) typically staffed with 3 RNs + 1 CNA
Support Staff:
CNAs (float between zones)
ED Techs
Security in-house and located in ED 24/7
RT 24/7 (ABGs, Tx, Vents, BiPap, CPAP, Airvo, etc.)
Pharmacist on-site ~12 hours/day (9a-9p)
No designated peds physician
? Required Experience
Minimum Experience:
1 year ED RN experience
Trauma experience (MVAs, GSWs, stabbings)
Triage experience
Must have completed 2-3 prior travel assignments
Preferred Experience:
Trauma bay experience
Epic EMR
? Certifications
Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
Preferred: ENPC
? Skills & Responsibilities
RNs Must Be Proficient In:
Titration of all critical gtts
Procedural sedation (adult & peds)
Use of filter tubing, blood product administration
Telemetry strip interpretation
IV starts with blood draws
Transport of acute patients (adjacent radiology)
Scheduling
Shift Times (Mids):
1p-1:30a, 2p-2:30a, 4p-4:30a, 6p-6:30a
Self-Scheduling:
First few weeks = fill schedule gaps
Template-based schedule usually includes 5 days off in a row every 3-4 weeks
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (some flexibility with template)
Holiday Requirement: Rotation if assignment overlaps holidays
On-Call: Possible; callback pay per contract
Floating: Not required, but may assist with tasking elsewhere if needed
