Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Strategic Engagement is an innovative fundraising professional who is responsible for oversight of the VIP Relations team (tours and hospitality), Government Relations, and carrying a small portfolio of major and mega donors. This position will be responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and securing major gifts for Museum of the Bible (MOTB), while implementing an approved government relations engagement strategy (White House administration and the Hill) and overseeing the onsite VIP relations team, overseeing all VIP experiences within the museum. This position will be expected to consistently demonstrate adaptability to the needs of the Museum's VIPs, while demonstrating integrity and dependability in all aspects of the role.

This leader will provide both strategic and tactical leadership to the VIP team of professionals, ensuring strategic engagement with all VIPs before, during, and after visits. As a key leader in Development located in the DC museum, this individual is required to maximize opportunities in their efforts to reach fundraising targets, achieve monthly and quarterly goals, and inspire and lead the team in maintaining a ‘relationship first’ mentality and innovating to create Donor Joy.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities :

Set SMART performance objectives annually with the CDO and strive to meet/exceed these goals Secure major gifts at the $100,000 to $1M level with the goal of raising $1M annually, with developed portfolio Track and report relationship management activity using constituent relationship management system (SalesForce), including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, proposal submission and stewardship of prospective and current individual major donors Ensure VIP relations team are using the CRM aligned with major gift nurture, relationship assignments and full-circle strategic engagement Act as primary manager for a portfolio of up to 50 major donor accounts, to move potential and current donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, maintaining a balance between discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Cultivate and expand planned giving opportunities with new and existing donors, and integrate planned gift objectives into major individual donor requests (in collaboration w/CDO and Director of Planned Giving) Make direct, face-to-face solicitations when appropriate Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition Identify & build relationships with new and prospective donors Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual activity to achieve individual performance measures (e.g. meetings, proposals, major gift revenue) Oversee Government Relations strategy, working with CEO and CDO to create strategic nurture opportunities and deepening MOTB’s relationships and profile in DC Oversee the VIP hospitality team (the suites) to maintain and grow exclusive and unique nurture opportunities Oversee the VIP Tour Guide team to ensure phenomenal tour and museum experiences, curated for specific tour audience Work with CDO and CEO on Advisory Board engagement, meetings and opportunities Maintain budget for assigned projects Support progress on scopes of work with specific contractors working in alignment of these assigned areas Support the Chief Development Officer as needed Champion the Museum of the Bible’s mission to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible. Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

Knowledge:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required 8+ years of successful, demonstrated experience in major or planned gift fundraising or sales. Demonstrated experience in VIP relations and alignment to a fundraising program Demonstrated experience in Government Relations.

Skills:

Knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising Able to think strategically and creatively and a demonstrated record of completing assignments, multi-tasking, meeting deadlines, and working with minimal supervision Experienced in developing clear and concise funding proposals Skilled at managing and motivating staff Organized, with “follow-through” on tasks and goals Excellent listening skills and strong written, verbal and presentation skills Attention to detail and proven project management skills Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SalesForce, Wrike.

Additional Requirements:

Work evenings & weekends as needed Occasional travel out of state is required As required, inclusion in official or incidental photographs and videos for MOTB and/or guests.
