About the role: Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Systems Engineer to provide technical direction regarding the design and development of medical systems. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance to an interdisciplinary team of Electrical/Mechanical/Software professionals from project conception to post-realization in support of the Interventional Cardiology division. Be a part of one of Boston Scientific's most product-diverse divisions, supporting R&D in the design of exciting new products and business development activities. These products adhere to industry standards and include computing devices, single-use devices, and support devices. Work Mode: At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our Maple Grove, MN office at least three days per week. Your responsibilities will include: Providing technical direction and system-level expertise across development teams working on the design and development of complex medical device systems. Facilitating cross-functional decision-making on difficult technical issues with long-standing impact and communicating these decisions effectively. Securing agreement on technical strategies across functional management and business leadership teams. Specifying the architecture and design of these systems, including physical and functional approaches and the management of system interfaces. Leading the integration of system elements, including internally and externally sourced items comprising both hardware and software components. Leading the deployment of Systems Engineering best practices across projects, including system concepting and design, requirement elicitation, and sustainable documentation. Managing technical progress on projects by understanding and troubleshooting issues as they arise and communicating status to key project stakeholders. Solving system problems through simulation, mathematical analysis, and/or systems interaction testing/analysis and providing recommendations for corrective action. Mentoring other engineers on practices/methodologies related to your domain knowledge. Coordinating system testing including characterization, verification, and validation. Coordinating discussions concerning safety and security analyses. Required qualifications: 10+ years of experience with a bachelor's degree (or 8+ years with a master's degree) in Engineering or Computer Science. Experience in design & development of complex system analysis from concept through commercialization. Strong proficiency in creating and improving system and product requirements. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Preferred qualifications: MS/PhD in Engineering or Computer Science. Medical Device industry experience in design controls with a focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design, and traceability. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including problem resolution. Experience with risk management, including the identification of effective risk controls. Experience in human factors engineering, usability, or ergonomic design. Experience specifying and supporting cybersecurity design principles. Proven project leader with experience leading teams on high-visibility/high-priority new technology ventures.
