Job Title: Drayage Dispatcher Location: City of Industry, CA
Reports To: Operations Manager
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Drayage Dispatcher to support and enhance our daily operations. Position Summary: The Drayage Dispatcher is responsible for planning, dispatching, and overseeing the day- to-day activities of our CDL driver team. This role ensures the timely pickup and delivery of containers, actively coordinates with port terminals, and uses load boards to supplement freight volume with profitable outbound/inbound opportunities. The ideal candidate is highly resourceful, knowledgeable in port operations, and experienced in dispatching within the drayage or intermodal sector. Key Responsibilities:
Daily Dispatch Planning:
Create and manage dispatch schedules based on driver availability, container status, customer commitments, and appointment windows.
Terminal Coordination:
Communicate with port terminals, container yards, and marine terminals (including via PierPass, eModal, trouble tickets, and holds) to ensure smooth container movements.
Load Board Management:
Search for, evaluate, and book profitable loads from platforms such as
Truckstop.com and DAT to supplement port work and maximize driver productivity.
Labor Efficiency G Cost Control:
Strategically assign loads and routes to minimize wait time, empty miles, and overtime while maximizing asset utilization and revenue per truck.
Real-Time Troubleshooting:
Proactively address delays, equipment issues, port congestion, and driver concerns as they arise throughout the day.
Driver Communication:
Maintain active communication with CDL drivers, providing real-time instructions, updates, and guidance to keep operations on track.
System G Record Management:
Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), port portals, and internal tools to track shipments, update statuses, and maintain accurate records.
Compliance G Safety Monitoring:
Ensure driver schedules comply with DOT hours-of-service regulations and all company safety policies.
Support Customer Service:
Collaborate with internal teams to provide shipment updates and resolve service issues affecting customers.
Audit of Logs G Paperwork:
Audit driver electronic logs and trip documentation regularly to ensure accuracy, compliance with HOS rules, and company standards.
Billing G Documentation:
Review and process completed loads for billing by verifying driver paperwork, BOLs, PODs, and container/trip details.
Ǫualifications:
2+ years of experience in drayage, intermodal, or trucking dispatch (port experience in Southern California strongly preferred)
Proficient in using Truckstop.com , DAT , and other load boards to find and book profitable freight
Familiar with PierPass, eModal, container availability systems, and Southern California terminal operations
Strong knowledge of DOT compliance, driver hours-of-service, and dispatch procedures
Excellent communication and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment
Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, TMS platforms, and online freight tools
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Work Environment:
On-site position based in City of Industry, CA
Monday–Friday, full-time
Tentative schedule – Subject to Operational Needs (required to be on duty until all drivers are done)
Monday 7am- 4pm
Tuesday, 11am-8pm
Wednesday 7am- 4pm
Thursday 7am- 4pm
Friday 11am- 8pm
Occasional after-hours support may be required due to port-related delays or urgent freight needs
