This is an intermittent (seasonal) position located in the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), This is an intermittent (seasonal) position located in the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) provides quality urban recreation and leisure services for residents and visitors to the District of Columbia. DPR supervises many of the District of Columbia's recreation/community centers, parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, spray parks, tennis courts, community gardens, dog parks, aquatic facilities and features. DPR also coordinates a wide variety of recreation programs, including sports leagues, youth development, therapeutic recreation, aquatic programming, outdoor adventure, camping, and senior citizen activities. DPR's Roving Leaders are responsible for developing and implementing broad-based programs, activities and intervention for youth. Recreation programming, counseling, and rapport building are tools used to engage the youth in positive leisure service activities. The programs include the: Fun Wagon, Skate Mobile, Obstacle Course, Rock Wall, Movie Night Out, Camp Footloose, Talented Ladies in the Community (TLC), Youth Motivation (YM) and Community Outreach.
Duties And Responsibilities
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
The incumbent is responsible for operating the Fun Wagon, Skate Mobile, Movie Night Out, and Rock Wall vehicles transporting the seasonal staff and equipment to the assigned communities.
The incumbent operates the assigned vehicle to provide a variety of transportation services. Operates the Fun Wagon, Skate Mobile, Movie Night Out and Rock Wall vehicles transporting the seasonal staff and equipment to the assigned communities Transport youth and seasonal staff on Field trips and to special events throughout the city. Monitor and report the status/needs and upkeep of the vehicle used. Loads and unloads the supplies and equipment Assist with the outreach services Engage youth of all ages in positive recreation activities Interact with youth at all time Teaching youth to use the recreation equipment (bikes, scooter, jump rope etc.); Maintain care and upkeep of all of the equipment and supplies Assist with gang intervention services, counseling and social service referrals Provide support to city wide special events and initiatives

Area of Consideration:
This position is part of the Pathway to Government Employment Partnership Program. District residents who received a high school diploma from the District of Columbia Public Schools or a District public charter school or received a GED or its equivalent from the District of Columbia will receive priority consideration for this entry-level position. Applicants must provide a high school transcript, GED certificate, high school diploma, or other applicable documentation along with verification of District residency before the District government may extend a final offer of employment.
Tour of Duty:
May vary as required by the needs of the program to include split days off, or fluctuating tour of duty including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Position Designation : This position is designated as a Protection Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background Checks and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable). This position is also subject to mandatory pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
