Job Purpose
The Art Therapist is responsible for designing and facilitating visual and performing arts programs at LC that promote positive youth development, emotional well-being, and self-expression. With a focus on Hawaiian cultural practices, the Art Therapist will support youth in exploring their identities, overcoming challenges, and building a deeper connection to themselves, their culture, and community. This role will help ensure that programs are responsive, engaging, and aligned with the needs and aspirations of youth.
Lili'uokalani Center (LC):
Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new Lili'uokalani Center will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT's signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports, and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults.A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy.
Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring of 2025.
Essential Responsibilities: Design and facilitate engaging visual and performing arts programs that promote self-expression, personal growth, and emotional well-being. Develop and implement art therapy activities and pre-enrolled programs tailored to address the emotional, behavioral, and psychological needs of youth participants. Foster a sense of community and social/emotional support by creating a safe, inclusive environment for youth to explore their identities through art. Ensure that programming is culturally relevant, balancing contemporary art forms with deep connections to Native Hawaiian traditions and values. Collaborate with other staff members to ensure youth are connected to additional support services and resources Stay informed on trends in art therapy, positive youth development, and culturally relevant practices to ensure programming remains effective and responsive to youth needs. Maintain timely and accurate case notes in the electronic record-keeping system, ensuring accessibility as needed. Other Duties:
Contribute to LT's success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organizational results Evening and weekend hours required as needed Other duties as assigned Qualifications:
Master's degree in relevant social services preferred Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a part-time, flexible schedule environment. At least four years of direct service experience, ideally within juvenile justice, or child welfare systems. Must demonstrate knowledge of Hawaiian culture and values, with the ability to integrate these into outreach and engagement efforts Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required Valid driver's license, clean traffic abstract TB clearance Job Competencies:

While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position.
