The St. Mary's School President serves as the school’s leader and ambassador, with responsibilities focused on institutional advancement, strategy, sustainability, organizational structure, community and spiritual leadership. The President delegates responsibilities for daily academic and co-curricular affairs to the principals.
Our School President will foster a strong educational and spiritual environment, while overseeing the operations of the school from a strategic level, including fundraising efforts. The successful candidate for this position will have the ability to engage our community.
The President is appointed by the Pastor of St. Mary’s in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In keeping with the bylaws of St. Mary’s School, the President has a direct reporting relationship to the Pastor of St. Mary’s and the Archdiocese of Baltimore Superintendent of Catholic Schools and is also accountable to the School Board (hereafter the “board.”).
Essential Functions:
Strategic Vision and Leadership
In collaboration with the pastor, St. Mary's Board and the Archdiocese of Baltimore develop and implement organizational plans and goals that advance the mission of St. Mary's. The president is a practicing Catholic who deeply values the traditions and values of the Church. He or she embodies, manifests, and advocates Catholic faith and spirituality while promoting a culture of inclusion that promotes the social/emotional wellness of all students. Provide overall direction, motivation and guidance to school administrators, and through the school principals, to faculty, and support staff so they work to their fullest potential; take the lead role in the creation of a Catholic-faith centered culture of excellence and accountability, and maintain and strengthen a "one school" mission for St. Mary's. Direct supervision and evaluation of the principals, admissions directors and other school leadership staff as appropriate. Set strategic enrollment goals and actively recruit families to St. Mary's School, the parish, and the Catholic faith. Effectively communicate with parents, students, and other stakeholders so that the St. Mary’s School’s mission philosophy, educational goals, policies, and other aspects of the Parish and School are clearly articulated, understood, and adhered to. Oversee, through the principals, the facilitation and coordination of spiritual, academic, athletic, extra-curricular, and community programs in the elementary and high schools. Ensure the school’s Catholic identity is maintained and promoted, integrating faith and the sacraments into all aspects of the curriculum and school life. Commit to a welcoming spirit to those who are not Catholic, be they students or teachers, as they embrace the mission of St. Mary’s School. Collaborate with the principals and campus ministries to provide opportunities for spiritual growth and development for students, faculty, and staff. Promote and support the school’s mission of evangelization and service to others. Articulate and advance our Catholic Vision for the school through collaboration, encouragement, and reinforcement with key stakeholders of the school and parish. Institutional Advancement/Board Relations
Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the School Board and ensure open communication about the measurement of performance against stated milestones and goals. Collaborate with the pastor and the board in developing strategic plans and policy for St. Mary's School. Execute strategic plans and provide regular reporting to the pastor and the board. Collaborate with the Advancement Office in the development and administration of all special fundraising campaigns and actively engage in building and maintaining relationships with donors and prospective donors. Increase available tuition assistance for families. Work with the Advancement Office to actively engage with Alumni. Represent St. Mary's to external constituencies, including individual donors, businesses, parishes, and institutional partners alumni, community organizations and others through off-campus meeting and speaking engagements with existing and new audiences. Fundraising and Development
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to support the school’s mission and operations in cooperation with our advancement office. In coordination with Parish leadership and the Executive Director of Advancement. build relationships with donors, alumni, and other stakeholders to secure financial support for the school. Finance/Operations
In coordination with the parish's business office, develop the annual operating budget. In coordination with the Pastor and parish's business office, develop a master plan and oversee the financial status of the school including development of long and short-range financial plans, monitoring the budget and ensuring sound financial controls are in place. Monitor the selection and hiring of qualified persons to serve as members of the faculty and administration; regularly meet with school faculty and staff and ensure that the policies of the Archdiocese of Baltimore are understood and followed. Monitor matters regarding employment of school faculty and staff with the principals, human resources payroll and benefits administrator to ensure that all employment matters, including recruitment, retention, performance evaluation, discipline, and dismissal of personnel; salaries and contracts; job assignments; are in compliance with Archdiocesan policy and relevant state and federal laws. Represent St. Mary's in its relations with the Archdiocese of Baltimore and with local state, regional, and national educational organizations, and accrediting agencies. Academic Oversight
Cultivate and support an environment and culture for 21st Century teaching and learning to flourish. In collaboration with the principals, monitor all programs of the school including curriculum, grading, assessment, reporting to parents, and disciplinary policies and standards of conduct. Ensure that all employees and volunteers comply with the Archdiocese of Baltimore regarding the maintenance of a safe and secure environment. Communications and Outreach
Maintains open communication with students, parents, faculty, and staff to keep everyone appropriately informed, and engaged. Utilize various communication platforms, such as social media and school announcements to promote student activities and events. Position Qualifications:
Practicing Catholic, living in way that is consistent with Catholic teachings, including in terms of all personal relationships, is required. An appreciation and passion for the Catholic school mission with a deep-rooted commitment to living the Catholic faith and embracing its values. Experience in visualizing and developing short and long-term plans to honor the school's culture and traditions while anticipating and addressing future needs. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible senior leadership experience in Catholic education (preferred), military/government, business, and/or nonprofit sectors. Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership, Organizational Management or related field. Experience in broad knowledge of overall operations of a successful and integrated organization including finance, budget development, board relations, admissions, fundraising, marketing, and care and maintenance of physical plant. Proven experience in revenue generation and the ability and willingness to actively assist in fundraising, and development, including identification, cultivation, stewardship and face-to-face solicitation of donors; capital campaign experience preferred. Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build, unify, foster and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external constituencies including administrators, faculty, board members, volunteer leaders, parents, students, and donors. Ability to articulate a Catholic philosophy of education that recognizes the need for appropriate programs to serve a range of students' needs, interests, and enrichments and foster a culture that serves this goal. Ability and willingness to actively support participation in the Sacraments, including mass attendance, first reconciliation, first Eucharist/Communion, and confirmation. Excellent public speaking skills complemented by a demonstrated ability to interact with diverse personalities and situations with ease and grace. Superior communication skills to express, orally and in writing, the Catholic school mission, vision, and goals with clarity, passion, and persuasion. Self-confidence and humility combined with a sense of humor and collaborative management style. Some travel required; must be available to attend events after work hours or on the weekends as needed.
Pay Range : $125,000 - 150,000, Annualized
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
