Save Job

Pacific International has been retained by a leading food manufacturing and distribution organization. As the company expands operations in the Pacific Northwest, it is investing in supply chain excellence at its Seattle-based production and distribution facility. A key part of this effort is the search for a high-performing Director of Materials to lead end-to-end materials flow and inventory control across the site.

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Materials Manager will be responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and cost-effective flow of materials—from procurement handoff through production and outbound logistics. This individual will drive best practices in inventory accuracy, supplier management, and team development, playing a critical role in maintaining operational continuity and supporting business growth.

This is an opportunity to make an immediate impact in a fast-paced, high-volume food environment, while shaping scalable processes for the future.

Responsibilities:

Materials & Inventory Management:

  • Oversee material flow from receiving through production and shipping, ensuring availability of ingredients, packaging, and MRO supplies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records; monitor stock levels and conduct root-cause analysis for discrepancies.
  • Own cycle counting program and inventory control procedures to minimize waste and stockouts.
  • Partner with corporate procurement and external vendors to ensure timely delivery of goods and resolve supply disruptions.
  • Optimize relationships with suppliers to support cost, quality, and lead-time objectives.
  • Manage a team of materials handlers, inventory analysts, and receiving clerks; provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with production planning, warehouse, quality, and logistics teams to align materials availability with production schedules.
  • Act as the key liaison between operations and procurement functions.

Process Improvement:

  • Lead initiatives to improve material handling, reduce waste, and enhance system utilization (ERP/WMS).
  • Support Lean, Six Sigma, or automation projects related to inventory and materials flow.

Reporting & Metrics:

  • Monitor key performance indicators including inventory turns, fill rates, material variances, and supplier performance.
  • Prepare regular reports for site and regional leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field (APICS/CPIM certification a plus).
  • 5–7+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, or supply chain roles in food, CPG, or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing hourly teams in a unionized environment.
  • Solid understanding of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and warehouse management systems.
  • Proven ability to build processes that improve accuracy, reduce working capital, and support production reliability.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, seasonal, and deadline-driven environment.
