Gerber Life Insurance is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in Mainframe systems and COBOL, CICS & DB2 development to support and modernize our life insurance policy administration platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain COBOL-based Mainframe applications for life insurance policy administration.
• Lead modernization efforts transitioning from batch-centric to real-time processing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate upstream and downstream systems.
• Contribute to architectural evolution/migration (e.g., IMS/VSAM/flat files to DB2, CICS Webservices).
• Manage product and sprint backlogs; estimate and deliver software changes.
• Ensure compliance with data security and regulatory standards.
• Open to learn the new development tools and perform POC to support the modernization development

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in technical leadership roles .
• 3+ years leading COBOL teams using both waterfall and agile methodologies.
• Strong experience with Mainframe technologies : COBOL, CICS, IMS, VSAM, JCL, CA7, DB2 and mainframe tools.
• Familiarity with modernization tools: z/OS Connect, IBM MQ, Microfocus Enterprise Developer and Analyzer.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and modern development tools (Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 100% onsite in Fremont, MI.
• Office-based role with extended hours during peak periods.
