Accountant (Staff)
This vacancy is for a GS-0510-13, Accountant (Staff) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, USCG FINANCE CENTER in Chesapeake, Virginia. Responsibilities include serving as a financial management advisor for the automated financial management system, acting as a subject matter expert, and facilitating the development of a successful performance oriented financial management and internal control process. Typical work assignments include serving as an advisor and resource in a wide variety of broad financial audit assignments, researching laws, regulations, and policy guidelines, and providing advice in a specialized area of cost accounting.
Key requirements include being a U.S. Citizen or National, registered or exempt from the Selective Service, and suitable for federal employment determined by background investigation. This is a Bargaining Unit position. Time in grade requirement must be met by the closing date of the vacancy. Basic requirements include a degree in accounting or a related field, or a combination of education and experience. To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience must include resolving accounting discrepancies, developing and analyzing agency-wide policy and oversight on a variety of operating accounting and financial reporting matters, and mastery of financial management, fiscal and accounting theories, concepts, principles, and procedures.
