Position Summary:
The Diabetes Foot Care Specialist RN delivers comprehensive foot care services that emphasize prevention, early detection, and patient education. Responsibilities include conducting foot assessments, providing routine treatments, evaluating footwear, and coordinating care when further medical attention is needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct initial and annual foot assessments, including diabetes history and medication review
Examine foot structure, circulation, skin, and nails; document findings
Provide routine foot care: nail trimming and filing, reduction of thick nails, calluses, corns, and ingrown nail portions
Inspect footwear for safety and fit
Refer patients to medical providers as needed
Educate patients on foot care, prevention, and available resources
Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record
Qualifications:
Current unencumbered Oregon RN license (required upon submission)
Healthcare Provider BLS certification (required)
Certification as a Diabetes Educator (CDE/CDCES) preferred
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
Prior teaching experience preferred
Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience as an RN or RD, with emphasis on diabetes care and/or chronic disease management preferred
