$42.00/hr - $85.00/hr We’re seeking a full-time
Plans Examiner
to join our growing team in the East or South Bay Area. In this role, you’ll review construction documents for code compliance, collaborate directly with municipal staff and applicants, and help keep projects on track while ensuring safety and quality. Success in this position means delivering thorough, timely, and solution-focused plan reviews, communicating clearly, and building trust with everyone involved in the process. What You’ll Do Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy, and accessibility plans for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. Write clear, constructive comments that guide applicants toward compliance. Collaborate with city staff, architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve code issues. Apply building, energy, and accessibility codes with accuracy and fairness. Keep organized records of plan review activities. Attend meetings, trainings, and occasional site visits as needed. Qualifications Strong knowledge of applicable building codes (California Building Standards Code preferred). Experience as a Plans Examiner, Plans Check Engineer, or similar role in municipal or consulting environments. ICC Plans Examiner Certification required; additional ICC or CASp certifications a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Comfort with plan review tools (Bluebeam, ProjectDox, etc.) or willingness to learn.
