Supplier Quality Engineer The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) plays a critical role in ensuring that externally sourced components and materials consistently meet defined quality standards. This position acts as a vital link between suppliers and internal departments—including R&D, Operations, and Supply Chain—supporting continuous improvement efforts and maintaining strong quality systems. The SQE will be responsible for building productive relationships with suppliers, leading audits, resolving quality issues, and supporting process improvement initiatives. This role serves as both a quality advocate and a liaison, helping drive compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements. Location: Woodridge, IL Pay: $110K - $125K annually, based on experience Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical discipline. At least 5 years of experience in supplier quality, quality assurance, or manufacturing, with a strong focus on supplier collaboration and oversight. In-depth knowledge of quality systems, standards, and frameworks, including ISO 9001/13485, Six Sigma, and regulatory requirements related to medical or military products. Proven skills in problem-solving methodologies such as root cause analysis, CAPA, and continuous improvement practices. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities for effective collaboration with suppliers and internal departments. Experience with Quality Engineering tools and documentation (e.g., Control Plans, pFMEA, PPAP, validation, and inspection plans). Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with statistical software such as Minitab is desirable. Familiarity with inspection methods, quality assurance techniques, and data analysis practices. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage cross-functional efforts. Willing and able to travel to supplier sites to conduct audits, resolve quality issues, and support improvement efforts. Responsibilities: Evaluate and monitor supplier manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with product specifications and identify areas for improvement. Conduct on-site audits of supplier facilities to assess quality systems, manufacturing practices, and adherence to industry standards (e.g., ISO). Collaborate with suppliers to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for new product introduction (NPI) and ongoing production. Lead and oversee first article inspections (FAI) to validate supplier process capability before full-scale production. Review incoming inspection data and material certifications to verify product quality and approve components for use. Create and maintain reports to track supplier performance, identify trends in quality data, and support continuous improvement. Recommend and implement quality improvements and preventive strategies aligned with internal quality management systems (QMS) and external regulations (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485). Work with cross-functional teams to define and communicate supplier quality expectations throughout the supply chain. Support sourcing and procurement teams in selecting and developing high-performing suppliers. Seniority level
