Job Overview
The Mobile Counselor III provides immediate mobile crisis response, risk assessment, and crisis stabilization for adults and children in Multnomah County. This role, grounded in a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach, involves collaborating with mental health and physical health care providers, police agencies, emergency departments, schools, and social service organizations to ensure the best possible treatment for clients. Responsibilities include triaging mental health crisis calls, assessing risk, coordinating crisis responses, initiating involuntary holds as needed, and facilitating connections to mental health services. The Mobile Counselor III also documents interactions and ensures compliance with agency and regulatory standards.

Provide mobile crisis response to individuals in Multnomah County. Triage crisis calls from the County Call Center and law enforcement. Assess risk factors for harm, considering all information to determine the best intervention. Initiate involuntary holds when individuals are at risk to themselves or others. Coordinate crisis response with community agencies and service providers. Communicate assessments to treatment providers and emergency departments. Ensure personal safety in the field; involve law enforcement if needed. Collaborate with law enforcement on crisis intervention plans. Link clients to mental health treatment and social services. Consult with team members, supervisors, and directors as needed. Work in an evolving, sometimes ambiguous environment. Uphold client rights, professional boundaries, and ethics. Adhere to abuse reporting laws and HIPAA. Document all interactions in compliance with policies and regulations. Prioritize safety, know fire regulations, and follow evacuation procedures. Complete annual training as required by the agency and facility. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and departmental meetings. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a behavioral science field and eligibility for QMHP credentialing. Advanced skills in risk assessment and crisis intervention. Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and strength-based case management. Valid driver’s license and ability to pass DMV check. Ability to work a flexible schedule, as the mobile crisis response operates 24/7.
