Nonprofit Chief Executive Officer Houston, TX Our client, a non-profit organization that provides services and advocacy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking, is searching for a strong leader to be its new Chief Executive Officer. This executive is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership: • Partner with the Board in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization • Foster effective teamwork between the Board, the Executive Leadership Team, and staff. Create and perpetuate a culture of collaboration, empowerment, and accountability throughout the organization. • Lead the organization through growing into a new, expanded facility, ensuring continuity of operations and alignment with strategic goals. • Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization. The organization, as a community leader in the area of domestic violence and sexual assault prevention, responds frequently to associated community events, social issues, crimes, and legislation covered in the news media. • Represent the organization at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile • Cultivate and maintain positive, strong working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization Development of funds: • Work with the Chief Development Officer and fundraising staff to analyze funding streams and strategic realignment as needed to strike a balance between grants and private philanthropy that allows the organization to thrive. • Establish an aggressive plan to deliver significant long-term growth for the individual major gifts and institutional giving programs. • Work with fundraising staff to identify new grant opportunities and develop grant proposals for program areas • Research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans, and draft funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization • Engage with donors, foundations, and Board Members to increase fundraising. Personally cultivate a meaningful roster of donors and C-suite constituents throughout Houston to drive awareness and funds into the organization Operational planning and management: • Leadership and oversight of the campus with high-security requirements, serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence • Oversee the development of an annual operational plan, which incorporates goals and objectives to achieve the strategic direction of the organization • High-level oversight to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization • Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the strategic direction of the Board • Act as a thoughtful leader in anticipating the evolving needs of the organization’s clients and in adapting services and resources accordingly Human Resources planning and management: • Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery • Support the human resources department to recruit, interview, and select staff with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to help further the organization's mission • Implement a performance management program for all staff, which includes continuous performance feedback as well as an annual performance review Financial planning and management: • Ensure preparation of a comprehensive budget by the Chief Financial Officer and Finance Committee, including appropriate input from Executive Leadership • Work with the Chief Financial Officer to forecast organizational cash needs to ensure adequate funding for the operation of the organization • Ensure sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed and that board-established schedules and reporting methods are consistently met • Along with the CFO, ensure comprehensive, timely, and regular reports on the revenues, expenditures, and cash flows of the organization are provided to the Finance Committee and the Board • Along with the CFO, ensure the organization complies with all relevant Internal Revenue Service laws and regulations and GAAP REQUIREMENTS: • Undergraduate degree required; Master’s degree in business, healthcare, social work, or a related field is preferred • Ten or more years of progressive management experience in a non-profit organization or equivalent experience in a for-profit environment. • Strong knowledge and demonstrated use of leadership, management, and fundraising principles as related to non-profit/voluntary organizations • Familiarity with current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization • Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal and external clients to exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters • Develop new and unique ways to improve the operations of the organization and to create new opportunities • Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.
