We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced
Marine Outboard Shop Lead
to oversee daily operations, lead a team of technicians, and ensure the efficient and profitable functioning of our service department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine engine repair, excellent organizational skills, and proven leadership ability. Work with a team of service managers to grow the outboard segment of our business.
The Outboard Lead position is a key component in the service department’s customer satisfaction. The Lead is responsible for maintaining and repairing marine outboard and gas inboard motors, in a professional and timely manner with quality work. The individual must have a thorough knowledge of various outboard motors, troubleshooting, repair, stern drives and outdrives. The individual must demonstrate the ability to interpret job specifications, instruction manuals, and manufacturer's handbooks. Must be able to work with customers directly. The individual must also have a working knowledge of boats' electrical and mechanical systems as well as installing new outboard engines with controls and accessories
Responsibilities: Willing and comfortable leading and assisting technicians with guidance and support. Master in various outboard engines such as Mercury, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. Responsible for maintaining and repairing marine outboard and inboard motors for customers, ensuring high quality and timely work. Clean and maintain all equipment as required. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with all equipment. Will work with other mechanical systems and basic 12 and 24-volt circuits. Willing and able to educate themselves with OEM technical
training/requirements. Flexibility to assist in any position to meet team goals. Install new outboard engines with controls and accessories. Manage day-to-day operations of the outboard service department Supervise and support marine technicians, ensuring work is performed safely and to high standards Schedule service appointments, prioritize jobs, and maintain workflow Ensure accurate diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of outboard motors (Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Suzuki, etc.) Maintain inventory of parts and shop supplies; order parts as needed Communicate effectively with customers regarding service needs, timelines, and estimates Maintain records of work orders, service history, and employee hours Uphold a clean, organized, and compliant work environment Train and mentor junior staff
Requirements:
5+ years or greater experience of sterndrive and outboard repair, maintenance, and electrical diagnosis. Excellent customer service attitude and skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail. Ownership of all basic tools necessary for service work. Capability of sea-trialing and docking boats at the location. Master Certification. Engine-specific certifications highly preferred; OEM outboard certification is a plus. Ability to manage time, budgets, and personnel effectively Valid driver’s license; boating license or experience is a plus Certification from Yamaha, Mercury, or other major outboard manufacturers preferred Strong knowledge of diagnostic tools and marine engine systems
