Job Id: 213 # of Openings: 1 Job Title: Student Engagement and Communications Coordinator FLSA: Non-exempt Position Type: Full time Reports To: Program Administrator Student Engagement and Communications Position Description The American Indian College Fund (College Fund) strives to positively impact the lives of American Indians by supporting their higher education and career objectives. College Fund team members believe education is the answer and collectively we raise funds, provide scholarships, and holistically support students in achieving their goals. Programming, research, and enhancing the capacities of tribal colleges and universities are also integral elements of our mission. The Student Engagement and Communications Coordinator reports to the Program Administrator of Engagement & Communications and supports outreach, engagement, and communication strategies for Student Success Services (SSS) initiatives – including the promotion of Native college-going culture, college prep, scholarship recruitment, student success, coaching, tribal colleges & universities, Native organization partnerships and career readiness. This position will effectively manage and create content for a variety of communication channels, including web pages, social media, newsletters, text, e-mail, videos, publications, and conference presentations. In addition, this position will assist in planning and executing in-person and online events and promote engagement to build and strengthen relationships with students, tribal colleges, Native serving scholarship providers, and other external partners. Essential Job Functions Coordinate Communication Needs and Strategies Assist Program Administrator of Engagement & Communications with development and implementation of SSS communication and outreach initiatives Coordinate regular communication across all SSS staff and programs Curate and deploy a diverse library of communication strategies and resources Help collect student stories and examples to achieve student success and inter-departmental goals
Implement External Communication Strategies Support organization-wide initiatives to coordinate and deliver strategic online events and programs that support student success and TCU awareness. Serve as project manager for social media, text messaging, email campaigns, chatbots, online presentations and other marketing and communication initiatives Assist in data collection, survey development, measurement and analysis of SSS communications strategies against department and organization objectives
Implement Internal Communication Strategies Support a routine communication plan that shares relevant information across the College Fund, including but not limited to, student stories, SSS activities, annual and donor reports, and other relevant information Actively participate in other Student Success Services and College Fund activities as needed
Example of projects this position would support: Developing promotional graphics and flyers for SSS online/virtual events, scholarship recruitment, and program/resource promotions (5-10 online events are hosted each semester with the student success team and external partners) Creating content for - and scheduling - social media posts, emails and texts for students, institutions and supporting audiences Supporting overall College Fund projects with overlapping goals like student success webinars, Voting/advocacy events, tribal college fairs, career expert panels, or donor focused events that engage students or key partners. Monitoring the department email inbox, filtering and elevating requests as they come in, coordinating mailing requests, and proactively responding to all incoming communications relevant to the team goals and objectives.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of or interest in Native higher education and Native student support Communication and marketing knowledge, experience and skill sets Experience utilizing a variety of web, social media, email and text platforms Comfortable with public-facing roles and representing the College Fund externally Professionalism and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse communities Strong writing and verbal communication skills Demonstrated interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with co-workers and interdepartmental teammates Demonstrated initiative and creativity in program development, execution, and evaluation Ability to meet deadlines for a wide variety of job assignments Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to dynamic, on-the-go environments Attention to and tolerance for detail Ability to work independently with minimal direction Ability to work collaboratively with team members, across departments, and with external partners Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations, including occasional evening/weekends Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and digital communication platforms Education/Professional Experience Required Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree 1-3 yrs. work experience and/or post graduate work in program coordination, communications, public relations or marketing Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Native communities or in Native-serving organizations Experience working with Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) or areas in Native student services, college readiness, and college success Prior work in nonprofit or higher education settings Education or experience in the areas of communication, marketing, public relations, journalism, writing, website administration and design Knowledge or skills in social media platforms, online advertising, graphic design, photography, videography, or video editing Experience collecting and presenting impact data points internally and externally Experience developing and managing content across social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Discord, YouTube, Bluesky, etc.) for organizational or campaign use Familiarity with event planning, logistics, or student-facing services Experience with program development, implementation, and evaluation Experience traveling professionally and independently representing an organization Photography, videography, content creation, or storytelling experience a plus Work Environment and Physical Activities:
Frequent keyboarding and use of digital platforms Professional office environment Dedicated office space outside of College Fund, if working remote or hybrid Occasional travel required (up to 15%) Supervisory Responsibilities:
