SUMMARY This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of shipyard procedures, and the ability to work independently while following instructions. Candidates must have ship repair experience, including blueprint reading, measuring, and interpreting job specifications for steel repairs. Must be able to train subordinates and work any assigned shift. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES 3–5 years’ experience in a shipyard or related industry.
Skilled in burning, washing, edge prepping
(manual/automated),
and tack welding.
Able to work in confined spaces and at heights.
Perform
fabrication/repairs
from instructions, blueprints, sketches, and specifications with minimal supervision.
Comply with the Company’s Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Must pass a standard second-class practical exam and hands-on skills test.
SKILLS Language:
Read and understand instructions, write simple correspondence, and communicate effectively in small groups.
Math:
Perform basic arithmetic in U.S. standard units.
Reasoning:
Apply common sense to solve problems and follow
written/oral/diagrammed
instructions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs occasionally; up to 20 lbs frequently.
Bend, squat, crouch, kneel, crawl, and climb safely.
Stand for prolonged periods; work at various heights.
Work in confined spaces and extreme temperatures.
Use PPE in compliance with OSHA standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Regular exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving parts, heights, weather, and loud noise.
Occasional exposure to fumes, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
SAFETY Must follow all company, federal, state, and local
safety/environmental
regulations, demonstrating Ownership, Responsibility, and Accountability (ORA).
