Company: Waterstone Properties Group, Inc. Role: Property Accountant Reporting to: SVP of Finance Full time in office, Needham, MA based
The Property Accountant will be responsible for a portfolio of approximately 20 commercial retail properties in the northeast. The Property Accountant will be responsible for the monthly preparation of financial statements, CAM recs, and customary transactions associated with the role.
Establish a relationship with the tenants serving as a point of contact for any questions that may arise Record monthly rents from tenants and ensure tenant ledgers are accurate and can effectively communicate any delinquencies to management Perform monthly reconciliations and update supporting workpapers of the properties including banking, accounts receivable, and other balance sheet accounts Process all tenant billbacks for the property including periodic CAM recs, utility billbacks, percentage rent, and other tenant specific expenses Review and analyze the general ledger activity and P&L ensuring accuracy that expenses are properly recorded - completing journal entries as needed Collaborate with property management in preparation of the annual property level budgets and other ad hoc requests Demonstrate an ability to understand commercial retail leases and properly interpret lease language surrounding percentage rent and CAM language Prepare detailed monthly property level financial statements for management Identify and implement process improvements associated with the role that result in overall efficiencies for the company
Requirements
Bachelors degree in accounting Prior commercial real estate experience preferred Experience with Yardi strongly preferred or similar accounting software 3 to 5 years of general ledger / financial statement preparation in a similar environment. Ability to collaborate across the organization and communicate up, down and across to all stakeholders Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and associated products - strong Excel knowledge The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detailed, with strong analytical skills
