Substitute Child Watch Staff

This position is primarily responsible for representing the YMCA personally, professionally, and in a manner aligned with the mission and goals of the YMCA. The Substitute Child Watch Staff Team Member will play a key role in ensuring that all shifts are covered and children are well cared for when other staff members are unavailable. As part of a rotating schedule, this individual will be responsible for covering at least one shift per month if another staff member calls out or takes time off. They will be an essential asset to the Child Watch team, helping maintain a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children while their parents participate in Healthy Living activities at the YMCA.

As a benefit, the individual will receive a YMCA membership for the duration of their employment. Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Provide care to children, ages 6 weeks to 12 years, who are members and guests of the YMCA. Ensure that all shifts are covered, including stepping in to cover shifts when staff members are unavailable. Supervise children during playtime and facilitate activities to keep them engaged in a fun and stimulating environment. Create and maintain a safe and welcoming space for children and parents. Model YMCA values (caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect) in all interactions with children, parents, and fellow staff members. Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, emphasizing both personal safety and emotional well-being. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required. Keeps safety of children as first priority.

Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the children and parents. Never leave the children unattended. Provide a fun, safe, and stimulating atmosphere for the children. Develop and foster a “family club” atmosphere by participating with members in an enthusiastic, courteous, and friendly manner. By personal example, helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA values to children, staff, and parents.

Must be a positive role model. Learn all emergency procedures and familiarize yourself with the first aid equipment. Keep room clean of food and small objects which may be deemed a choking hazard. Inspect room each morning for possible hazards, clean and vacuum room prior to closing each day. Attend all staff meetings. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Education/Experience:

Previous experience working with children in a babysitting, child care or school setting. Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children alike. Skills and Competencies:

Child Abuse Prevention (or within 90 days of employment) Respect in the Workplace (or within 90 days of employment) Others to be determined CPR, First Aid, AED
