Working under the clinical supervision of the physician, the Medical Assistant provides routine clinical and administrative support to physicians and other health care team members in an oncology/hematology clinical setting. Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
Patient Care 80% Verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, confirming purpose of visit. Chart prep for any upcoming patients. Prepare patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room. Perform preliminary physical tests; obtain vitals, weight, and temperature; report patient history summary. Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential. Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results. Serve and protect the physician or healthcare provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements. Collect specimens as directed by physicians. Ensure specimens are tracked/logged prior to transportation to lab. Ensure all patient care areas are adequately stocked. Properly handle, store, and clean instruments, equipment, and supplies per manufacturer guidelines. Arrange patient's diagnostic and therapeutic services by completing necessary paperwork and scheduling appointments. Equipment Quality Assurance 10% Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt. Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs. Front Desk 10% Answering and triaging phone calls. Patient Check-In and Check-Out. Coordinate and facilitate accurate patient appointments. Completes physician orders and facilitates specialist's care. Provides instructions and directions to patients regarding diagnostic tests. Education/Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant Certification preferred. 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient practice or clinical specialty required. Experience in phlebotomy preferred.
