Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Harris-Stowe State University has an opening as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach. The position is responsible for planning and directing the recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student athletes, along with fiscal program management, for the Harris-Stowe State University Women’s Basketball Program. This position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. This is a professional head coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the NAIA, the America Midwest Conference and Harris-Stowe State University. Employees in this job class may be subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract, which is typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis. This position directs an Assistant Coach in leading the team and its performance. Job programs for student-athletes. Duties/Responsibilities Manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative activities for the specific sports program. Direct the overall planning and execution of the intercollegiate women’s basketball program. Recruit prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions. Manage roster size in conjunction with Harris-Stowe State University admissions goals. Monitor academic progress and status of team members Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program. Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NAIA and America Midwest Conference regulations. Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques. Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments. Oversee the strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes. Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing. The Head Coach will be a person of integrity, high ethical standards and exhibit a strict adherence to NAIA, the University, department rules and regulations with a commitment to student achievement in academics. Attends monthly staff meetings. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics Education & Experience Requirements Minimum Qualification: This position requires a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of coaching experience at the collegiate level and/or head coach at the high school level; Must possess extensive recruiting, coaching techniques and skills, camp coordination and facilitation, community service, teambuilding, and fundraising experience. Field maintenance, NAIA eligibility and compliance experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly. Must have the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. Must have a valid driver’s license.
