Summary
This career-service position will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the redaction of medical records requests from the Public Health Release of Information (ROI) team. In conjunction with the Health Information Manager, the person in this position will work exclusively with client's records to redact and remove sensitive diagnoses. This includes test/lab results, medication, coding related to diagnosis and medication/visit notes from Protected Health Information (PHI) or Medical Records. This is a detailed and hands-on position, requiring an individual to focus for long hours. As a Medical Record Redaction Specialist/Project Program Manger III, this position ensures that the information is accurate and in accordance with the Public Health Compliance redaction guidelines, as well as applicable state and federal law. The primary responsibility of this position is to fulfill ROI requests that require sensitive information redaction (Mental Health, Chemical Dependency, alcohol, and drug abuse information, STD/HIV/AIDS). This position supports the Compliance Office and reports to the Health Information Manager within the Administrative Services Division of Public Health - Seattle & King County. Review records to be released to assure all sensitive information has been redacted. Develop and maintain systems for record redaction, quality, accuracy, and consistency. Meet all mandated deadlines. Facilitate training and orientation for all staff in Public Health - Seattle & King County for release of information process and procedures. Provide training for staff for scanning/indexing/committing documents and in duplicate resolution for patient electronic (EPIC) and paper medical records Lead in creating and maintaining standards, policies and procedures for release of medical records and duplicate resolution of patient records across the Public Health - Seattle & King County healthcare system. Review all Release of Information forms submitted by patients, attorneys or third-party representatives while meeting established guidelines. Assess, update and maintain Public Health forms Review the problem list in the records, medication lists, diagnostic reports, and billing codes. Redact all requested information, test results and notes. Coordinates with ROI team and other staff to effectively respond to inquiries regarding medical redaction request status. Knowledge of state and federal statutes and Public Health policies pertaining to privacy and security of Protected Health Information (PHI). Knowledge of medical coding & medical terminology. Ability to effectively communicate with compliance team about medical record redactions. High degree of familiarity with electronic health records, paper records, or both. Ability to manage and monitor highly confidential and sensitive patient information. Strong analytical and systemic thinking skills. Knowledge of Microsoft applications (including Teams) and EHR-systems (EPIC preferred), and Adobe Acrobat. Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Health Information Technology. Desired:
Certification by examination as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association or Registered Health Information Technologists (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association. Bachelor's degree in health information management.

This position is located at the Chinook Building, 401 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. This position will also work at various sites in King County as needed.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
