Vice President, Investment Accounting
Our client is seeking a Vice President of Investment Accounting to join a high-performing finance team. This individual will play a key role in overseeing the financial reporting and accounting processes for a complex investment portfolio, including real estate, renewable energy, and structured partnership vehicles.
This position requires a strong foundation in GAAP investment accounting, experience working with SPVs and tax equity structures, and the ability to operate cross-functionally with investment, operations, and external reporting teams. You'll also contribute to the preparation of 10-Q/K disclosures, manage third-party administrator (TPA) reporting, and support the integrity of internal controls.
Role & Responsibilities
Lead the monthly and quarterly close process for investment assets, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, footnotes and variance analyses. Oversee accounting for complex investment transactions, including real estate and renewable energy projects, private partnerships, and SPVs. Perform and review HLBV (Hypothetical Liquidation at Book Value) calculations for tax equity investments. Collaborate with third-party administrators (TPAs) to reconcile statements and validate GAAP results. Ensure compliance with SOX/internal control requirements and support periodic audits. Prepare financial statements and schedules for quarterly and annual filings. Coordinate with FP&A, legal, tax, and operations teams to ensure accurate and timely investment reporting. Assist in process improvements, system implementations, and internal documentation of investment accounting procedures.
Key Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA preferred; CFA or MBA a plus. 10+ years of progressive experience in investment accounting, with direct exposure to renewable energy, real estate, or infrastructure assets. Experience preparing HLBV calculations and equity method investment reporting. Background in insurance, asset management, or public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferred. Familiarity with GAAP and, ideally, statutory accounting for investment assets. Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Clearwater, PAM) and Excel. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
