Under the general supervision of the Senior PA and the Medical Director of the ED, the ED PA will evaluate and treat patients with medical and surgical problems, along with performing related duties. In the absence of the Senior PA and/or Medical Director, the ED PA will be supervised by the appropriate attending physician in the Emergency Department.
The practice of a physician assistant shall include medical services within their education, training, and experience, delegated by the supervising physician.
Medical services provided by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, formulating diagnoses, developing and implementing treatment plans, monitoring therapeutic interventions, assisting at surgeries, providing counseling and education, and making referrals. In emergencies, 'physician assistant' refers to situations where delay in treatment could result in serious harm or immediate life threat, and the physician is not immediately available.
These activities may be performed in any authorized setting, including clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes, and other institutional settings.
In addition to core skills, PAs will request validation to perform department-specific skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant program
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensure from the New York State Department of Education
Registered as a Physician Assistant in New York State
BLS, ACLS, ATLS, & PALS certification (or eligibility) within 1 year of hire
