We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Contract Workplace Investigator to join our team on a part-time, as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in conducting impartial investigations across both the private and public sectors, including school-based investigations. The investigator will be responsible for conducting interviews, analyzing evidence, preparing detailed findings, and presenting results to clients in a clear and professional manner. Key Responsibilities
Conduct impartial investigations into workplace and school-related complaints, including but not limited to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, and policy violations. Interview complainants, respondents, and witnesses with professionalism and neutrality. Review and analyze documentary and electronic evidence, including personnel files, correspondence, and policies. Prepare high-quality written reports, including findings of fact and conclusions based on a preponderance of the evidence. Draft responses and position statements for California Civil Rights Department (DFEH/CRD) and EEOC matters. Ensure all investigations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, policies, and investigative standards. Present findings and recommendations to clients in a clear, professional, and defensible manner. Qualifications
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience conducting workplace investigations; prior school investigation experience required. Strong knowledge of employment law, Title IX, and California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA). Experience preparing DFEH/CRD position statements and responses. Proven ability to conduct sensitive interviews across diverse cases and populations. Exceptional writing skills, with experience preparing comprehensive investigative reports and findings. Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to work independently with professionalism, discretion, and impartiality. Bachelor’s degree in law, human resources, or related field preferred; J.D. or relevant certifications (e.g., AWI, ATIXA, SHRM) a plus. Work Arrangement
Contract, part-time, as-needed assignments. • Remote work with occasional on-site interviews or hearings as required. • Flexible scheduling depending on case load. Compensation
