Arlo Washington D.C. will comprise 229,846 square feet, including the restoration of the original 42,942-square-foot, five-story building, The Harrison Apartment, D.C.’s oldest known surviving conventional apartment building since 1882. The hotel will add 186,904 square feet, with floors six through 12, the penthouse, four meeting rooms, and an indoor and outdoor rooftop lounge and pool. Features will include a restaurant and bar, a “Bodega” cafe and lounge, and an interior courtyard. Located in Washington, D.C.’s Judiciary Square, four blocks from Union Station and less than a mile from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the 445-room hotel is ideal for leisure and business travelers. It is close to landmarks such as The Capitol and the Supreme Court, as well as fine dining and upscale shopping. Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the engineer will perform general repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment throughout the hotel. Specific work areas will be assigned based on skill level and experience. Accurate record keeping of tasks and ensuring all safety systems are operable are essential. Responsibilities and Authorities: Always treat guests with courtesy and respect. Maintain honesty and integrity. Perform daily system operation and maintenance routines. Handle minor and major repairs, improvements, and upkeep. Respond to guestroom calls promptly and politely. Report accidents or incidents immediately. Greet guests with eye contact and use their names when possible. Adhere to hotel health and safety guidelines. Report guest concerns to management timely. Specific Duties: Take equipment and meter readings, record accurately. Keep the work site clean and organized after tasks. Perform minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC repairs, and painting. Maintain detailed records and logs. Conduct preventive maintenance in guest rooms and public areas. Additional Requirements: Visual inspection and detection of repair needs, requiring knowledge of various trades. Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies. Work well under pressure and overtime when needed. Support other departments and guest activities. Maintain compliance with hotel engineering procedures. Work standing for extended periods (up to 5 hours). Address safety concerns promptly. Perform other duties as assigned, including moving supplies and cleaning spills. Report major repairs to management. Coordinate with contractors and management. Requirements: Preferred hotel or building maintenance experience. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally. Basic mechanical skills for operation and repair of hotel equipment. Knowledge: At least 3 years of hands-on experience in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, or general repairs. Good English communication skills. Special Requirements: Work schedule may vary based on hotel needs due to the cyclical nature of hospitality industry.
