You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.
Job Summary
We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Apptronik, focusing on continuous improvement for our Apollo humanoid robot platform. In this role, you'll be responsible for driving design, process, and performance improvements across the entire robotic system, from individual components to the full-stack assembly. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer with a passion for robotics and a proven track record of optimizing complex mechanical systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for the Apollo humanoid robot, identifying and addressing design and manufacturing bottlenecks.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on system failures, performance issues, and production inefficiencies to implement robust solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers, to integrate improvements seamlessly.
  • Optimize mechanical designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Design, prototype, and test new components and sub-systems to enhance overall robot performance.
  • Develop and implement best practices for mechanical assembly, testing, and quality control.
  • Document all design changes and improvements thoroughly, ensuring clear communication and knowledge transfer.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
Skills and Requirements
  • Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) and FEA simulation.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes like CNC machining, 3D printing, and injection molding.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing, including the use of lab equipment.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role, with a strong focus on design for manufacturing, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience with complex electromechanical systems, particularly in robotics, aerospace, or a similar field.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with humanoid robotics or legged locomotion is a significant plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate
