We are seeking a Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst who will primarily support pre- and post-award activities for the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships (BDP) team, however, throughout the year, this position will also manage two institutional research awards programs: Catalyst Awards (supports early career faculty) and Discovery Awards (supports cross-divisional team science). These programs represent part of the largest institutional commitment to faculty research in the country. This position will report to the Director for Research.

Given the very public nature of the VPR office, and in particular the BDP and institutional awards programs and their importance to University leadership, this position requires a motivated professional with significant expertise in research administration within academia. The ideal candidate is a quick learner, independent, results-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Position Scope/Complexity

  • Work independently a majority of the time, on complex or highly complex grants/contracts. Provide high-level, professional administrative guidance on protocols, regulations and guidelines to PI and other scientific/research professionals within the department. Interact with external research/administrative professionals.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Pre-award

  • Provide instruction, preparation assistance and support related to grant application procedures.
  • Understand and utilize institutional policies for pre-award grant process and sponsor guidelines.
  • Manage all assigned grant submissions to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Review budgets and related justification for appropriateness and completeness of content. Provide groundwork for subcontract negotiations.
  • Responsible for the timely preparation of proposal budget for the PIs review.
  • Review all sponsored project proposals for assigned faculty prior to them being forwarded to the Grants & Contracts Manager and JHURA/ORA for signature. Review involves accuracy, content, adherence to all relevant guidelines.
  • Partner with and act as final point of contact with faculty and/or budgetary staff and the research administration offices (JHURA/ORA) toward the planning and development of application submissions to various federal offices, private agencies/foundations and commercial companies.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all faculty.
