Shipping/Receiving (Packer)

The Shipping and Packaging Clerk works with transportation department or vendors to ensure timely inbound and outbound deliveries. Verifies and keeps records on outgoing shipments, finished goods and prepares outgoing items for shipments, for inventory storage by performing the following duties. Essential Job Functions: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Determines method of shipment and packaging. Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying information on cartons. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects pre-assembled containers. Inserts items into containers. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape. Stacks cardboard containers on pallets and shrink wraps pallet for shipment. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications and documentation. Maintains inventory of shipping and packaging materials and supplies. Operates forklift, tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. Enters data into computer system for inventory records, shipping information and tracking purposes. Lifting up to 35lbs. Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
