Position Overview
The firm is seeking a Stormwater Project Engineer I to join the Water Resources team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and technically strong civil engineer with 8–12 years of experience in stormwater, drainage, and floodplain analysis. The selected candidate will serve as a technical lead on a variety of municipal and transportation-related projects while mentoring junior staff and collaborating across disciplines to deliver effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses of floodplains and floodways, including bridge and culvert crossings
Evaluate flood-prone areas, identify root causes, and develop feasible design alternatives
Design stormwater systems including conveyance, detention, and BMPs for municipal and roadway projects
Develop erosion and sediment control plans
Lead project tasks and manage technical staff to ensure timely, accurate project deliverables
Prepare calculations, design reports, plan sets, cost estimates, construction details, and specifications
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex infrastructure projects
Review and QA/QC engineering work prepared by peers and junior engineers
Maintain strong relationships with clients and vendors
Mentor and develop junior engineering staff
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
8–12 years of relevant experience in water resources or stormwater engineering
PE license in Illinois and/or Indiana
Proficiency with MicroStation (AutoCAD experience a plus)
Strong skills with H&H modeling tools such as HEC-RAS and SWMM
Experience in municipal and/or DOT drainage design
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage tasks and work effectively within a team setting
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential
Familiarity with DOT and municipal stormwater design standards
Experience in client coordination and leading engineering teams

Compensation:
$90,000-$130,000 per year
