nColumbus Water & Power, Division of Water Reclamation-Sewer System Engineering Section is hiring an Engineer in Training.
nExamples of Job Duties May Include:

- n
Preparation and review of engineering plans and designs for sanitary and storm sewer systems.
n n - n
Preparation and review of reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering solutions.
n n - n
Preparation of proposals and specifications for new design and construction projects.
n n - n
Review of construction documents for compliance with applicable design and regulatory standards.
n n - n
Conducting site inspections of various types of work.
n n - n
Preparation of technical reports and supporting data/documentation.
n n - n
Consultation or meetings with consultants and contractors for design and construction reviews.
n n - n
Interpretation of contract specifications.
n n - n
Management of the designs and construction of small storm & sanitary systems.
n n - n
Utilization of database management and analytic tools such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to manage data and to review and generate maps and AutoCAD to update Department standard drawings and specification.

Preferred Experience and Training:

- n
A valid State of Ohio Fundamentals of Engineering (FR) license.

Experience in engineering related to storm water and wastewater collection systems.
n n
Under general supervision of a Professional Engineer, is responsible for performing practical engineering work; performs related duties as required.
nExamples of Work

nPrepares and reviews engineering plans and designs for structures, facilities, or systems;
nPrepares and reviews reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering solutions;
nPrepares proposals and specifications for new construction and facilities repair projects;
nReviews construction documents as a plans examiner trainee for compliance with building and other codes;
nTabulates and evaluates bids on small projects; determines adequacy of various materials used in the projects;
nLearns to prepare estimates of costs and quantities of supplies and equipment necessary for construction; learns to test and examine equipment;
nMakes site inspections of work; tests and evaluates equipment and materials currently in use;
nPrepares technical reports and support data;
nConsults with contractors; interprets contract specifications;
nDesigns small systems and work order plans;
nUtilizes database management and analytic tools such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to manage data and to review and generate maps;
nMay observe construction and provide recommendations concerning construction activities;
nMay attend review meetings with in-house and outsourced providers;
nMay supervise subordinate staff engaged in performing paraprofessional engineering work;
nMay assign work to drafting personnel for completed working drawings of proposed project.
nMinimum Qualifications
nPossession of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
nPossession of a valid driver’s license.
nSpecialization in the discipline for which appointment is being made may be required for some positions and will be incorporated in the job postings, as appropriate.
