Job Purpose
Reporting to the Employment, Class & Comp Manager, the Human Resources Assistant processes personnel and payroll actions for permanent and grant-funded FTE employees and administers the university's leave program.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree and two years of relevant experience, or High school diploma and four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications Previous related experience in a human resources office, preferably at an institute of higher education. Experience with payroll processing and/or data/leave management. Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel. Experience with Banner software helpful. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary
Working knowledge of basic payroll processing procedures and the principles/best practices of human resource and leave management, including relevant federal and state regulations. Effective organizational, problem-solving and math skills. Sufficient technical ability to master required software. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with difficult situations. Ability to effectively coordinate multiple concurrent tasks and work with accuracy despite frequent interruptions. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in working with confidential information. Effective oral and written communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public. Job Summary
Monitors leave reports, adjusts leave balances, manages negative leave balances, and submits payroll adjustment forms. Calculates and enters leave for employees on special leave status and initiates personal action forms, as needed. Requests leave information for transferring state employees. Manages the state leave transfer process and prepares annual report. Enters new hire assignments and verifies payroll information. Processes reclassifications, reassignments and non-payroll-related personnel actions. Processes terminations. Serves as backup for processing temporary and student assignments. Monitors the HRHelp inbox and responds to inquiries or forwards to the appropriate person. Completes all requests for verification of employment. Serves as backup for front-office functions.
Travel/Overtime Requirements Occasional overtime may be required.
