The Sonographer works effectively with patients and physicians and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel. Job duties include completing studies in a timely and efficient manner while utilizing downtime to assist others as needed. The Sonographer assures exam charges and five-day late list are checked daily for the ultrasound department. Organizing workload during high volume to expedite patient care and communicating pending exams and pertinent information to other technologists is essential. The Sonographer assists physicians in performing radiology procedures. Promoting positive relationships at the department level is important, along with discussing concerns with supervisors and presenting the department positively to other employees and staff. Maintaining supplies with a minimum inventory and developing new methods of supply utilization is required. Handling equipment in a safe manner according to department guidelines and policies is essential. The work area must be kept clean, following equipment cleaning policies. The Sonographer assures exterior surfaces of machines are wiped down after each workday and between patients as appropriate. Following the on-call policy by responding to callbacks within an acceptable timeframe and arriving in the department within 30 minutes after being called is necessary. The Sonographer willingly assists with procedures in any area of radiology when needed and checks with co-workers during downtime for the need of assistance. Compliance with attendance and tardy policies is required. Following dress code and appearance policies is essential. Participating in required hospital and department in-services and meetings is expected. The Sonographer adheres to safety and infection control policies. Other duties may be assigned by supervision as needed. Current equipment includes Philips CVX Epiq machines and a Vasculab ABI machine.
