Job Description
Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Location: Detroit, MI
The Electrical Engineer will support manufacturing equipment, control systems, and capital projects with a focus on improving sensing, automation, and data reporting systems. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring troubleshooting of plant electrical and control systems to ensure safety, reliability, and continuous operation. The position supports multiple shifts and operational areas and requires flexibility to meet plant needs in a heavy industrial environment.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform preventive maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical equipment, power distribution, and lighting systems.
  • Work with 480 VAC three-phase motor control systems, transformers, generators, and control mechanisms.
  • Test and troubleshoot motor controls, switch panels, windings, and related electrical components.
  • Diagnose system malfunctions, isolate causes, and perform corrective actions.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure reliability.
  • Use electrical theory, diagnostic equipment, and hand tools to test, troubleshoot, and repair control systems.
  • Design, implement, and maintain electrical power distribution networks and control circuits for industrial equipment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, testing, and project progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations, maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding safety, production, and quality concerns.
  • Support capital projects by specifying and implementing controls, sensors, and reliability improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with low voltage (<1,000V) and medium voltage (1,000-35,000V) electrical systems required.
  • Controls and PLC experience preferred; Allen-Bradley PLC programming strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with high-voltage (600V+) systems, PLC troubleshooting, and industrial automation.
  • Experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment is required; mining experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience specifying and implementing sensors and sensing systems.
  • Strong technical background with proven problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to support multi-shift operations and work a minimum of 55 hours per week.
  • Willingness to sponsor qualified engineers under the TN1 program for cross-border relocation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in team environments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to wear PPE (steel-toed shoes, hard hat, safety glasses, harness, and electrical safety gear).
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures in both production and outdoor environments year-round.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs regularly and perform physical activities including climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, and reaching
