Senior Traffic Engineer
positions involve planning, coordinating, and scheduling the section's workload; coordinating transportation planning and traffic engineering programs with other departments and public agencies; acting as a liaison with government agencies; supervising street light/signal system design and traffic control plans; conducting traffic engineering and transportation planning studies, traffic safety analysis, traffic operations, and bike programs; making presentations before the City Council, commissions, and citizen planning groups; performing complex research projects; preparing budget estimates, reports, correspondences, and grant applications for transportation projects; managing funding received for transportation initiatives; training, evaluating, and rating the performance of subordinate professional engineering and technical personnel; overseeing the Transportation Program; reviewing consultants' technical traffic engineering studies; and performing other assigned duties. NOTES: Eligible benefited employees hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS). Senior Traffic Engineer employees with valid State of California registration as a Professional Traffic or Civil Engineer are eligible for an additional 31% pay. Minimum Requirements: Experience:
Four years of full-time professional traffic engineering or transportation planning experience. City employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience must submit documented proof signed by their appointing authority detailing the work performed, dates, and total OCA hours. OCA experience without proper documentation will not be considered. Registration:
Valid registration as a Professional Traffic or Civil Engineer with the State of California. License:
A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at hire. Required Documents:
Proof of OCA (if applicable) must be attached during application submission or sent via fax or mail as specified. Applicants should ensure all information is complete and accurate, as responses to supplemental questions will be evaluated automatically. Successful candidates will be placed on a list for vacancies over the next six months, with the most qualified contacted for interviews. Pre-Employment Requirements:
Employment is conditional upon passing screening processes including citizenship verification, medical review, reference checks, fingerprinting, and possibly additional tests like polygraph or background checks.
