This position ensures accurate and timely calculation and distribution of biweekly payroll utilizing UKG payroll software. The director serves as a subject matter expert on payroll regulations, technology solutions, and industry best practices and partners cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and IT to support organizational goals. The Payroll Director oversees the payroll team and is accountable for payroll tax compliance, internal audit support, system configuration, policy development, analytics, and process improvement. This position plays a critical role in ensuring payroll operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with Sheppard Pratt’s mission and values.
General Summary
:
The Payroll Director is a key leadership role responsible for strategic oversight, development, and execution of all payroll operations across the organization. This position ensures accurate and timely calculation and distribution of biweekly payroll utilizing UKG payroll software. The director serves as a subject matter expert on payroll regulations, technology solutions, and industry best practices and partners cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and IT to support organizational goals. The Payroll Director oversees the payroll team and is accountable for payroll tax compliance, internal audit support, system configuration, policy development, analytics, and process improvement. This position plays a critical role in ensuring payroll operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with Sheppard Pratt’s mission and values.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
:
Work requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field, at least 5 years of experience with managing multi-state hourly and salaried payroll, experience with healthcare industry and multi-shift differentials and Certified Payroll Professional certification and/or related coursework in order to demonstrate: Professional level of knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices and information systems Comprehensive knowledge of payroll administration processes and UKG software applications Strong foundation regarding applicable laws, Department of Labor, and Internal Revenue Service reporting requirements Demonstrated management experience, including the supervision of payroll staff and processes Knowledge and experience with development, testing and implementation of UKG payroll software system and enhancements Skills in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff Work requires a level of analytical ability sufficient to reconcile biweekly payroll, test and confirm accurate systems administration of payroll policies and procedures, prepare departmental reports, and resolve problems related to payroll operations. Work requires interpersonal skills to effectively and tactfully interact with internal Sheppard Pratt staff to share information, train timekeepers and managers, resolve complaints, establish payment plans for employees who have been overpaid, and to effectively supervise staff.
